Extract from Letter from CLG to all SP lead Officers 20th January 2010
Dear Lead Officer,
Changes to the Publication of Information on the Supporting People Website
Introduction
This letter is to inform local authorities of planned changes to the electronic publication of information on the Supporting People programme.
The Supporting People Website As part of its Service Transformation commitments, the Government has sought, since 2006 to streamline the publication of information across its websites. All Departments have been asked to limit the publication of public-facing corporate information to one website. In order to comply with these requirements we have
decided to publish key national information about Supporting People on the Communities and Local Government (CLG) website from April 2010.
Keeping the Current Site and Domain Name
We recognise that the SPKweb has a brand closely associated with the programme so we will be keeping the existing site and the historical information it contains. It will
not be possible, however, to publish any new information on the site after Wednesday 31 March 2010. All information published by CLG or Other Government
Departments, after Wednesday 31 March will therefore be placed on the Supporting People pages of the Department’s website. Anyone clicking on the SP website
domain name (www.spkweb.org.uk) will be redirected to the Supporting People pages at:
www.communities.gov.uk/housing/supporta ... ingpeople/ .
A link
to a copy of the current SPKweb will be maintained on CLG’s website and a copy of the SPKweb will be kept as part of the National Archive.
We will be keeping the SPKweb domain name (www.spkweb.org.uk) until at least 1 May 2011. We will give further consideration to the case for keeping the SPKweb domain name towards the end of the current contract with our IT provider. I attach a table summarising these changes at Annex A.
Publication of Local Information
We are aware that local authorities use the SPKweb to publish information of a local nature, especially advertisements about tendering processes and job vacancies. We
will continue to provide this function for local authorities by setting up a link on 1 April 2010 to our Communities webpage at:
Further Information
We are keen to ensure that the transition to the new arrangements is as smooth as possible. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Michael Aimey
(Mike.Aimey@communities.gsi.gov.uk ).
Yours faithfully
Shehla Husain
Deputy Director
Housing Care and Support Division
